Flashing vs Lit Check Engine Light

A lit check engine light means the computer of your vehicle (ECU) has received a signal from a sensor in the vehicle informing the ECU that something is out of the ordinary. It could be something as simple as a loose gas cap or as major as a mechanical failure that requires diagnosis and repair as soon as possible. 

A flashing check engine light means the engine is not running as it should and the vehicle needs to be turned off immediately to avoid causing further damage to the engine. 

Tech tip: always keep an eye on your engine temperature gauge. The worst thing you can do to your vehicle is let it run when the temperature gauge is above normal operating temperature.
